Wembley garden Cloister House - Morq Architects

This garden really stretched our creative planting design neurons! It was indeed a challenging project, particularly the design of the walled courtyard garden. The reason for this is that these rammed earth inner courtyard walls are 4m+H, receiving no sun for 7-8 months of the year and a full blast of afternoon sun daily in summer. Shade sails and umbrellas verboten!

As anyone who has been in Perth over summer knows, it is more often than not, very HOT, and with some years, temperatures can soar to 45-47C.

The rest of the garden was largely native/succulent with focus on form and texture. This outer garden faces a main road and like the courtyard, the plants needed to be tough enough to be able to cope with full western sun in summer and shade in winter.
